Anchored With the Best

Last Friday was my sorority’s formal and it was so much fun! We were bused to a secret location (Gladstones Restaurant in Malibu) where party rooms overlooking the ocean were reserved just for us. Pink and blue lighting, good music, and ah-mazing cupcakes made it such a great night. I’m already looking forward to next year’s formal! The best part was just being able to have fun with so many of my sorority sisters at the same time. I swore I would be a low-key sorority girl, but I’m fitting the stereotypical image more and more every day – minus the cattiness! LMU Delta Gamma’s are classy. I wear my letters whenever I can, and my love for DG’s colors (pink, blue, bronze) and symbol (anchor) shows no end. My addiction to clothing and accessories incorporating them is getting intense, but thankfully where I’m working this summer (where my dress I wore to formal is from) is as preppy as my sorority’s colors and symbol. Some serious self-control will be required!

Long Live Lilly

I have loved Lilly Pulitzer and her designs since I was 9 years old. In July of 2003, Vanity Fair published an article titled “Palm Beach’s Barefoot Princess” where I was first introduced to facts about the Queen of Pink and Green and saw photos of her fun frocks. I remember my mom reading me the article’s highlights and asking me which dresses I liked best in the spread. After that, I was hooked.

The West Coast isn’t as hospitable to Lilly’s designs as the East Coast, as I mentioned here, but my few trips to the South (Georgia, South Carolina, Florida) have included lots of Lilly. I have fond memories sipping Sweet Tea in Lilly shift dresses. The only not-so-fond part of those memories was the scorching heat, but that’s why I live in California! Humidity is not a friend of mine. Instead of wearing Lilly apparel, I opt to use Lilly accessories. My 2012-2013 Lilly agenda makes stressful weeks at least a little more bearable with fun prints and bright colors.

My love for Lilly is especially strong today after hearing about her passing yesterday morning. Her legacy in the fashion world and notorious prints will continue to live on forever. I plan on breaking out all of my Lilly fashions this summer regardless of what coast I’m on in her honor. Rest in peace, Lilly.

Hawaii, Please!

I blame my university's excessive palm tree population. I guess I can also blame the city of Los Angeles. Warm days with ocean breezes and the sun shining between rows of leafy palms have put me in a Hawaiian state of mind since last August.

 I love Hawaii. I've only been to Maui, but so many summers spent there has me close to calling it a home away from home. I am immediately at peace when the humid air touches my face. The sweet smell of Plumeria (my favorite flower), sunscreen, and salt is something I wish I could bottle up and wear everyday. The anticipation of long, relaxing days by the pool and beach brings the biggest smile to my face, as do long nights watching the sunset and walking along the beach. I can't get Hawaii off my mind, so here's to hoping I can go back soon! 

In the meantime, I want to incorporate Hawaiian prints into my wardrobe. These items aren't too Lilo (from Disney's Lilo and Stitch), but can be worn to make up for a lack of days sans fruit drinks and a sandy beach. 

Hooray for Hollywood-Oscars 2013

My mom and I enjoy doing touristy things, and when she was here last weekend it was no exception. One of my favorite things we did, besides going to Disneyland, of course, was going to Hollywood. I will never get tired of seeing the Hollywood sign, and seeing it close up with the Walk of Fame at my feet is something I’ll always love doing. There were bleachers set up in addition to a few other obstacles that made the narrow sidewalk by Grauman's Chinese Theatre even more crowded than it usually is that normally would have been annoying (ok, it still was), but then I realized what it was for: the Oscars. They were set up in front of the Dolby Theater, where the Oscars were held, in preparation for last night’s Academy Awards. Naturally, my mom and I went inside, walked up the stairs the stars do, then looked for an outlet to charge my new iPhone 5 that I’m mildly obsessed with. Maybe the stars do this too?

Watching the Oscars, alas between studying for midterms, was great. Every year I am overcome with a love for the movie industry and Hollywood that turns me into one of those “One day, that’ll be me up there!” people, but this year was different. A mere 18 miles from where the Awards were being held and writing a paper for my Art of the Cinema class, it was the first where I actually thought “Hey, maybe it could be me up there…” You never know! I’m still not sure exactly what I want to do, but taking screenwriting classes and living in Los Angeles takes me at least a little closer to walking up the Dolby Theater’s stairs for a reason other than finding a place to charge my iPhone. Hooray for Hollywood!

Kate Spade, My Fave - NYFW Spring/Summer 2013

Instagram and Twitter have kept me going these past few days. My dream is to go to NYFW someday, but until that happens, I have to live vicariously through the lucky attendees! My favorite collection I've seen so far has been Kate Spade. I could easily see myself wearing ALL of their Spring/Summer 2013 looks. I can't wait to see the new clothing, shoes, and accessories in person when they hit stores for next season.

Panama Hat

I bought my Panama hat at J.Crew about two years ago after seeing it here, but found few occasions to wear it since then. However, after brining it with me on my trip to Mexico - wearing it religiously both in and out of the pool/on the beach - I want to wear it with everything! I wore it the other day while running errands around town and loved the way it looked paired with my Thakoon for Target dress, Sperry Top Siders, and beachy waves. FDR and Winston Churchill (among others) knew a good hat when they saw one! 

Tiffany-Obsessed

There's one of my most favorite movies, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and then there's me: Obsessed With Tiffany's. I love everything about the renowned jeweler, and each time I wear something from Tiffany's I can't help but feel glamorous and Holly Golightly-esque. These are Tiffany pieces I'm currently lusting over - a girl can dream! ;) 

Southern State of Mind

I have only visited the South a handful of times, and though very hot, I really love it. Most southerners are extremely hospitable and always manage to look put-together, two feats I find highly admirable. When I find myself in such intense heat, I’m far from hospitable and put-together. My favorite southern specialty – besides sweet tea – is southern style, specifically anything Lilly Pulitzer and cute sandals by Jack Rogers. I adore the bright colors and fun prints of the two brands; I only wish that such preppy looks were as ubiquitous in the Bay Area as they are in the South. One thing’s for sure: when wearing southern apparel away from the South, be prepared to stand out! I already have a few Lilly pieces, but my recent southern style additions include two pairs of Jacks (One pair was scored on major clearance!), a new Lilly dress (Also scored on sale!), and a Lilly agenda for college. I will surely be the brightest, preppiest girl in the Bay Area (and in Los Angeles when school starts) when I wear the dress and a pair of Jacks together! 

Beat the Heat

In a little over a week I'll be in one of my favorite places: a Disney theme park. It's a well-known fact that I love all things Disney, so when my cousin asked if I would like to join her on a vacation to Walt Disney World in Florida, I jumped at the chance! This will be my third time visiting WDW, and though I love spending all day in the park, Florida in the summer is very hot. With warm temperatures combined with humidity, short and frequent showers are expected, so I need to dress accordingly. A sample of my daily outfit and beauty routine is in the collage below.
