I love award shows, and especially with the Oscars coming up this Sunday, I’m especially excited to see what movies will win. I wasn’t very good with seeing the nominated films this year, but I did see – and love – American Hustle, which I hope at least wins for best costumes. (The furs! The slips! The plunging necklines!) I also love award show fashion. (Note: The Oscars edition of Fashion Police is the best episode of the year, in my opinion.)
Seeing a multitude of such magnificent gowns all at once can be overwhelming, just as picking out an outfit for the day can be. As I am, for the most part, incapable of functioning before my morning cup of coffee, choosing an outfit for the day before 8am, when my first class usually takes place, is no easy task. I’ve tried picking out an outfit the night before, but I usually change my mind come morning. As I eat breakfast and sip my coffee as quickly as I can, I skim Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and my e-mail. So many stimulants, most with visual elements, will usually inspire my outfit for the day. I’ll see a favorite blogger or celebrity in an outfit I like, and I’ll try to emulate it with my own flair.
This morning was a busy one with no time to check social media or get inspired, so I was left on my own to choose an outfit for the day. I think black jeans are just as important to own as regular blue ones; they’re extremely versatile, and the style I wore today are nearly as comfortable as yoga pants. Pants that stretch are the best. Like I’m sure happens before deciding on a final outfit for an awards show, minds are often changed. My 8am is usually a trial run for my outfit, as by noon I’ll usually add to or subtract from it. The only part of the outfit I changed today was outerwear; I went from a varsity jacket to my favorite blazer. Far from Oscar glam, but it got me through the day. (I know the coffee helped, too.)
